Abstract

This article discusses a comparative methodology for the territorial identification and assessment of contemporary urban landscape formation. The methodology was developed and adapted by the author of this article based on similar studies applied at a different level of design and the multi-criteria analysis method. The methodology consists of two parts evaluation and selection each of which is further divided into steps. The selection stage is intended for identifying areas of contemporary urban landscape development and determining  heir physical boundaries. The evaluation stage is intended to determine the potential scale of change in the contemporary developing urban landscape relative to existing structures comparing the potential value of the existing and emerging urban landscapes. It is important to note that the study is conducted within the field of  typomorphology. In this work, the cityscape is evaluated as a qualitative component of the urban structure, whose overall value overshadows the value of any single specific object. This method allows us to approach urban  design as a continuous process and to assess urban complexity, and, based on clear results, to determine  the course of further urban design actions.
